Back to school, but without Rodney Dangerfield

Back to school, but without Rodney Dangerfield

I started going physically going back to school last month, and it has been so weird. As a whole, Sinclair staff are supposed to go back July 6 at least 50 percent of their normal hours. I started going back at the beginning of summer semester so that I can start to get used to it. And let me tell you, there are things I like about going back and things I do not like.

Things I like:

  1. I get to put makeup on again! Not leaving the house really makes you lazy. Why wear makeup for no one or your husband? He doesn’t care. Next week, I get to go to the store and buy all new makeup because my makeup is old and crusty.

  2. Those Sinclair Tartan Marketplace wraps. If you ever had one of these you would know. I’ve been savoring these wonderful rolled up baby burritos of wonderfulness since I started Sinclair in 1999. They don’t have my favorite Thai peanut wrap, but just wait for fall.

  3. It’s super clean. They are still cleaning like crazy, so my trash is always taken out and it smells like bleach, lemons and loneliness in my office. So fresh.

  4. I get so much work done. While I want to see my students, I get to work nonstop and I get so much done. I also like getting out of the house and away from the husband. I’m pretty sure he feels the same way.

  5. There’s no one in the parking garage. Have you ever been to Sinclair during the first week of fall semester and tried to park? Most people just leave the lot and drive home. I like to yell at people who drive the wrong way. I now park basically in front of the tunnel.

>>>>SHOWS SHOWS SHOWS: There are only 2 shows in July, so don’t get too excited

Things I do not like:

  1. Not knowing whether or not to get into an elevator with someone. I usually don’t see many people when I am at school. However, one day the elevator opened and a person was in there. I had no idea what to do. Also, I saw people in the stairwell, and I wasn’t sure if I should run.

  2. My students are not on campus. Half my job is advising my students at the student newspaper. They are not there, so the newsroom is empty. Not only is it empty, but it’s also full. Full of newspaper racks we had to collect from around campus. It’s spacious and cluttered at the same time.

  3. Starbucks still isn’t open. We have a Starbucks in the library. It is still not open. The end.

  4. The lady I share an office with is on campus, so I can’t blare my music. Who is she? I don’t know. I should ask, but it’s weird. I can’t see her except in a weird mirror. I think she’s a faculty member so why is she here? She got to go so I can play Howard Stern in my office on full blast.

  5. The tunnel in summer. I thought they were supposed to upgrade this long hot hamster tunnel from the 19-somethings. At least we don’t have to wear a mask so my makeup just sweats off evenly instead of only the bottom of my face.
