44: Taking a break to pamper myself, get healthy
I’ve waited a couple weeks after the Funny Bone Clash of the Comics to write because I wanted to process a few things. Obviously, I didn’t win, but I did have a solid set. I went over my five minutes by four seconds, so that was a bummer.
The main thing that bothered me was the fact that not one person came to see me. I had been talking about this show for months and created a Facebook event. Four people said they were coming while 18 were interested. And that’s the problem. People are always interested, but that’s it.

I know I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve been doing comedy for almost 10 years now. I have no family in town anymore. My husband doesn’t like going to shows anymore. Or anything for that matter. So I’m taking just a small hiatus from comedy until the new year.
I plan to work on some jokes because I have so many notes it’s wild. I need to go out of town and stay in a hotel for a couple days to relax and write. And probably do a little gambling. Definitely going to do some gambling.
Recently while attending a friend’s show I was informed by other comedians that I’m hardly a comedian and barely do any shows. Well, that’s just a bunch of horse shit. I had at least 20 shows this year that I was on. I even headlined a couple.
Apparently, if you don’t go to open mics, then you are not a comedian. Well, I feel uncomfortable at open mics and even more uncomfortable around a lot of comedians. I’ve had some issues in the past with these “friendships,” so I try to stay away for my own well-being.
And my health is important. So I plan on exercising a lot. I plan on reading and writing. I am going to take really long baths and not think about dumb shit. I will plan for the new year and try to be as positive as possible.
