28: Jess is a volleyball superstar again!
The fall semester has begun and I decided to step it up when it comes to working out. Sinclair is amazing because they pay for all employees to take two free physical education classes every semester. This semester I am taking weight training and volleyball.
Weight training is not a big deal. I go every Monday and Wednesday after work and just use the Sinclair gym for an hour. It’s nice because they aren’t many people in there, so there are tons of machines to choose from. It is nice to be able to use weight machines again.

Volleyball is Saturday mornings for two hours. My first Saturday was amazing. I was scared because I hadn’t played in 18 years, but I was jumping and bumping like I never stopped playing. I was serving and diving, and was fully bruised when I got home.
Then a couple days later, it all caught up with me.
My muscles ached so much that I could barely walk. Luckily, I had Labor Day off, so I could rest more. Then a couple days later, I got a throbbing pain in my inner thigh. I began stretching and icing in order to be ready for the next Saturday.

That next Saturday was pretty brutal. I had to sit out a couple times and rub my inner thigh. I went home and iced. A couple days later, a bruise that covers my entire inner thigh appeared. I appeared to have strained my groin. I have never seen a bruise this big before.
I have been icing and taking medicine the last couple days because I plan on going back to volleyball on Saturday. I hope that my groin feels better. Getting off the toilet is a challenge, but the pain has definitely lessened.
I used to love being injured when I was younger. It made you more of an athlete. Now I am almost 40 and I say, “to hell with all that.” The only good thing about having a groin strain is all the jokes I have been able to write about it.
Playing volleyball is so special to me, and I hope I get to continue to play. I get so high playing. I forgot how great it feels to be tired from practice. I am meeting great people too, so I hope to play even more, as long as my body holds out!
