15: A place called Washington Court House
Recently I traveled to Greenfield, Ohio to perform at Jerry’s West with my good friends Lori Graves and Rob Wilfong. I was ready to travel an hour to the show, but there were a few things my husband and I were not ready for.

We stopped at a McDonald’s for a coffee in Washington Court House. My husband went in to purchase this minor item, but it took 15 minutes. Why? Because poor customer service and the fact that no one knew how to use the digital kiosks.
This begs the question, why does a McDonald’s in Washington Court House need digital kiosks? It’s not a place that needs things to move fast. I assume people live in this town because things move slowly.
After waiting 15 minutes for a coffee, we hauled ass to the show. There was a minor detour. Fortunately, there was a very easy detour. I am so happy it wasn’t bad because we could’ve ended up two states over because country roads are not our forte.
The show went off without a hitch and we were on our way home at 10 p.m. We were glad we would be home by 11:30 p.m. But then we made a bad decision. We stopped in Washington Court House again to grab a couple things.
Walmart is where we stopped and after only 10 minutes of shopping, we were in line. Being in line at Walmart is like a mind fuck. You think you are in line about to check out, but then you look at the people’s baskets in front of you. Then you realize, I am never getting out of this god forsaken store.
One family checking out had 2 carts full of food. I commented, “These people better be going to a food pantry after they leave here.” Another family couldn’t afford everything in their cart, so they had to return Pringles and some Fruit by the Foot in order to check out.

I realize that I am probably an awful stuck-up city girl for getting angry while in line, but I had 4 items to purchase and the money to pay for it. I know this is an effect of the larger Walmart corporate machine, but it was still annoying none the less.
Despite these speed bumps, I was able to purchase my pillow and blanket and sleep comfortably on the way home. Kudos to my husband for dealing with my rude remarks that I thought were said quietly, but were not at all.
The good thing though is that now I have a pillow and blanket to use when I am traveling home from out of town shows. What I am saying is that I think I made it.
