13: My childhood home is for sale
So what has happened in the last couple weeks?
My parents are moving to Columbus at the end of May. I had to go help them go through old stuff in the basement where I used to be a tenant.

Chris was really good at packing stuff and throwing garbage away. I was good at looking at old photo albums and reminiscing about the days of old. The days when I played sports and snuck boys into the basement.
We did clean some stuff up and I ended up taking my granny’s desk to my home. It is a desk I spent a lot of time at. I wrote a lot there when I was little and then when I was older and the desk was in my room.
The desk was soaked in pot and cigarette smoke, so my husband sanded the desk down and refinished the whole thing. My 80-year-old desk looks almost brand new. I can’t wait to put it in my office and start writing while sitting at it once again.
Besides my desk, I found some pretty hilarious things in that basement. I found an old pager, bags full of Marlboro miles, a hackysack and floppy disks with my writing saved on it. I threw those away because who in the heck has a floppy drive?

I found one other thing I won’t mention, but just know it is something that I used a lot in college. Not books or pens. It’s something my parents would not have been happy knowing it was in their house for the last decade.
I thought I would be more upset that my childhood home was being sold, but I don’t feel sad at all. I wish my parents the best in their retirement, and I hope their move to Columbus is smooth and easy.
