PHOTOS: The first open mic at Bricky's Comedy Club

On Friday, March 23, I performed at Bricky’s Comedy Club’s first open mic. I had a pretty good set, even though I’m still working to get this gallbladder joke to land properly. I’ve done the joke only a couple of times in different ways, and it just still isn’t getting laughs. But like most of my jokes, I think it’s funny and I will never give up on it!

I was joined by many other funny comedians, and my former student and her husband also came out to support me. Having people for you in the crowd can really change a set. I wasn’t feeling well before the show. It might have been nerves or the yucky pinot grigio I drank, but when my people showed up, I felt better. I also switched to chardonnay.

These photos were taken but that shitty photographer who was with me, but many of them actually look OK. There were a couple where I was transparent like a ghost, which I like. I also for some reason kept hugging myself during this set. Also, I don’t know why I stick my pinky finger out like that when I hold the mic. I guess I’m just a very dainty comedian.
