41: It finally happened again after 7 long years
I’ve been performing in comedy contests for many years. The first one I did was Wiley’s Fireworks contest in 2015. I made it to the finals, ended up performing first and did not win.
Ever since then, I do not really have great expectations for contests. Most of the time it’s a popularity contest and I am not popular. But I do them because it’s fun, I see lots of comedian friends and many times there are first-timers in contests. They are always fun to watch.
I did the Funniest Person in Cincinnati contest a couple weeks ago. I did really well. Still, I didn’t think it was possible for me to win. And I was correct. I didn’t make it through to the next round, but I wasn’t upset by that.

The Clash of the Comics at the Dayton FunnyBone came back, and that hasn’t been around since I started doing comedy in 2013. I signed up right away. I performed this week and I advanced to the next round. I ended up in second place and will be in the finals, which is wonderful!
I received many compliments on my set from some of the people that I remember were around when I first started way back when. Four people ended up dropping out and my husband meanly said that that was the reason why I made it through.
Whether or not that’s true really doesn’t matter. My set was on fire! I even broke the microphone in the middle of my set. I accidentally said “fuck,” which is a no-no. My jokes all hit and it was so wonderful to do well in front of other comedians and of course my friends in the audience.

If you came out to see me, thank you so much. I literally couldn’t have performed without you. Congrats to the other comics and I will hopefully see you all at the finals in October. Yes, the finals are not until October. I probably won’t win, but I sure have enough time to put together an awesome five minutes.
