Why I won't miss working in the media in 2019
My last day working in the media was this week, and it was just as I thought it would be. It was me working 12-hour days alone on the holidays.
I was a journalist up until Dec. 31. I have spent the last couple years, posting breaking news on social media, so most of the things on this list are directly related to that terrible, disturbing part of my life. Now, I see how awful social media is, which is why I deleted my Facebook app on my phone. Too much frivolous distraction.
>>>>BLOGS: Why I won’t miss working in the media
While I am going to miss the adrenaline-pumping anxiety during breaking news or the buffoonery of a White House press briefing, there are some things I will not miss.
Being trolled on Facebook by gun nuts who do not know what punctuation is.
Monitoring and hiding comments that are incredibly sexist, racist, homophobic and hateful.
Being trolled on Facebook by pro-lifers who do not know what punctuation is.
Answering messages when creepy people just message with a “hi.”
Facebook.
Hiding memes posted by gun nuts and pro-lifers who do not know what punctuation is.
Feeling bad when I make a typo. At least I KNOW what punctuation is.
That’s it for now. As you can see, this is proof that social media is evil!
