PODCAST: We Don't Have Cookies

I had the opportunity to be a guest on Jason Marshall’s podcast called “We Don’t Have Cookies.” Having never been on a podcast, I didn’t know what to expect. It turns out you just have a conversation with someone!

I plan to write a blog just about being on the podcast, but for now, here is a profile on Jason and his podcast.

How long have you been a comedian?

My first time was on stage at Wiley's in Dayton on June 10, 2012 and I've done stand-up sporadically since then.

Are you from the area?

Yes, I've lived here my whole life.

Who are some of your favorite comedians?

My favorite comedian of all time is Mitch Hedberg, he had very funny, simplistic jokes that were very well crafted but his delivery and stage presence really put it over the top. I also really like Steven Wright for the same reason even though they have very different personas. I love Paul F Tompkins, his stand up is good but his improv is amazing.

What is the name of you podcast?

We Don't Have Cookies.

When did you start your podcast?

My podcast launched on July 29, 2015

Who has one of your favorite guests been so far?

One of my favorite guests is Kenny Bolin. He's a former professional wrestling manager for the WWE's old developmental territory OVW and managed people like John Cena, Bobby Lashley, etc. As a wrestling fan, I used to listen to his podcast while working in a cubicle and would be blown away by his candor, quick wit and sense of humor. I would have never guessed that years later he would be a close friend of mine. He's one of the most entertaining people I've ever met, his wrestling persona almost pales in comparison to his real life personality.

What do you like about podcasting?

There are so many things. Sitting down with interesting, funny people is great. I like being able to record something in the comfort of my home and have it heard all over the world. My show has been downloaded in over 100 countries, I can't envision doing anything else that would have that impact.

What do you like about doing stand-up comedy?

I don't do it very often but when I do the best part is when it is over. The feeling you get after a set goes well is like nothing else in the world.

Where do you see yourself in 1 year?

I would like to keep expanding the podcast with other distribution platforms and radio stations. I want to make the podcast much more interactive. People can currently email or leave a voicemail but I'd like for them to be able to call in and be on the show with the guests. I also want to have more people on who are involved in the topics that are discussed on the show.

What's life like outside of doing the podcast and stand-up?

I'm really lucky to have such a great life. I spend a lot of time with my wife and two daughters. I love being a parent. I enjoy playing video games on my Xbox or phone. I also really like doing yard work, I spend most of my free time outside when the weather is nice.
