My top 5 freelance stories from the past year
Since I left the media full time, I have been freelance writing for Dayton Daily News and dayton.com. I have really enjoyed searching for story ideas and creating stories. I also love being handed all the comedian interviews!
I thought I’d put together this round up of 5 of my stories from the past year that meant the most to me. Here you go!
Second Shelf offers a second chance for East Dayton community: This story was just an idea I had to help my friend Doug Morgan’s shop. He needed volunteers and repairs done. I learned some East Dayton history and heard an amazing story about Doug and a homeless man.
College plans free performances of empowering “Vagina Monologues”: I had only been at Sinclair full time for a few months when I wrote this story. It helped me to meet some other professors in other departments while promoting an amazing experience. I attended the play as well, and it was superb.
Get ready for a “dynamite” night with Maria Bamford: I wrote an entire blog just about writing this one story. I got to interview Maria Bamford over the phone. Bamford is one of my favorite comedians, and I had such an amazing time talking to her. Read my other blog here for more details.
Beloved Belmont Days return two decades later: I interviewed five people at the same time for this story. I live in Belmont, so being able to learn some history about where I live is always a treat for me. I wanted to write another story this year, but due to coronavirus, I don’t think the festival will happen, which is sad because it just started again last year.
“America’s Got Talent” star coming to Dayton to spread some cheer: We all know I love comedians. I talked with Vicki Barbolak when she was to perform at the Funny Bone. She even offered me a guest set, but the late show was actually canceled, so I didn’t get the chance to open for her. Next time!
I continue to write, so please keep looking for my stories.
