PROFILE: Carlin Hagerty used to have a buzzcut
Why did you start doing comedy?
Ok, last night I tried stand-up for the first time. I had always had a thought in the back of my mind that I wanted to try it but it was a vague interest.

Is there a hairstyle you ever regret having?
The usual kid stuff. Buzzcuts and mohawks, etc.
When and why did you start booking your own shows?
At the end of my first year, I saw that in my area, opportunities were very limited and if I wanted to grow, I needed more stage time. I started booking shows as a way to get more stage time.
How much money have you spent on plain white T-shirts?
I spend about $7 per show on T-shirts. This includes a business card to help get my name out. I have performed in over 300 shows so I would say over $2,000. The T-shirt bit is one of the first jokes I ever wrote. I think it stands up still.
Where is your favorite place to perform?
On the western edge of the state in a town called Milford Center. They are a small town of approximately 800 and when we go put on a show they treat us like rock stars. I have never had a bad show their and can't wait to get back.
What were you like in high school?
I was just an average kid in high school. Neither an athlete nor a scholar. Probably a bit dorky.
What is one thing no one knows about you?
I am scared to death of failure. I will work twice as hard as anyone else just so that is not an option. Now if I could just get funny...

Which decade had the best music?
The 70's and 80's both were interesting times in music.
Who are some of your comedic influences?
Robert Klein and David Brenner for their suave demeanors and polished sets. Jack Benny for his absolute fearlessness on stage and willingness to "wait out" a laugh. Johnny Carson who was able to turn a joke that bombed into laughs.
